School Story:

I received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1969. I taught and coached 4 years in Roswell at Mountain View Middle School. I received a graduate assistantship to obtain my Master's Degree from Eastern New Mexico University which I received in 1975. I taught English and was head girls Track Coach at Amarillo High School. I actually began the girl's track program at Amarillo High School. Next I taught Physical Education and coached at Plano Haggard Middle School 1975-1976. I retired to start our family and was a homemaker for 18 years, substitute taught some. I was blessed with three sons and did substitute teaching in Bailey, Colorado and volunteer work in the schools in Lubbock, Texas. In 1994 I went to work for Texas Tech UIL and worked there for 4 years as an assistant director to the Region 5 UIL Director. From 1998-2003 I taught and coached at OL Slaton Middle School in Lubbock, TX. From 2003-2012 I taught at a Juvenile Justice Alternative School in Lubbock TX. As a second job, in the evening and on weekends, from 2008 to 2011 I worked at Target in Lubbock as an Operator and Fitting Room Manager. Chuck passed away March 29, 2010. We were married 36 years, one month, and one week. HE WAS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!! I am now retired from teaching, coaching, and Target. I live with my son, Matthew, his wife, Tabitha, and their 4 kids, my grandkids. I am a Christian missionary, working with refugees who come to the Dallas area from all over the world. We mentor them, teach them English, help them apply for a job, aid them in interviews for jobs, and hopefully, with prayer, lead them to accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior and Lord.

I am so saddened to hear of Terry Miller's passing.  He was such a wonderful guy!  I am praying for his family to be comforted during this time, his wife, children and great grandchildren. MAY THE LORD SURROUND THEM WITH HIS LOVE AND COMFORT!!!

Lynn Barnett Bratcher
Hi Doug, This is Lynn Barnett (Bratcher). I am so sorry I do not get on the Roswell High Website enough. I just noticed your sweet note asking about my family. I will tell you now, and I hope you will forgive me for taking so long.

1. Kent Barnett, my oldest brother lives in Roswell and helped my Dad in the family business, Barnett Carpets, later changed Barnett Fine Floors. He married a wonderful lady from Los Alamos named Lonna Brown He now has 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Kent is 76.
2. Lynn (almost 72) married a guy when I went to Eastern New Mexico University named Robert Allen. He was a baseball player. We both became coaches and moved back to Roswell where he was the Head Baseball Coach at Goddard and I taught and coached at Mountain View Middle School for 4 years. During these years I became a born again Christian and he didn't want anything to do with that, he had an affair and divorced me. I would have not made it if I couldn't have depended on Jesus to get me through that. Chuck Bratcher was also divorced by Judy Blevins. Chuck came back into my life after I had been divorced 4 years. We had dated in high school and we now dated again and later married in 1974, had 3 sons and he had 2 sons previously by Judy. Now 5 sons and 11 grandchildren and one great grand child. Now I am a missionary to help refugees learn English and mentor them and help them with Christian beliefs. I had 36 years with Chuck and he was the love of my life. Until he went home to be with the Lord. Now I live with my oldest son and his wife and their 4 children which are 4 of my 11 grandchildren.
3. Karma was 69 when she went home to be with the Lord. I miss her terribly and I was closest to her. She was married to Andy Daniels who preceded her in death in 2014. They had 2 children and 2 grandchildren. She was also a nurse, an LVN and worked at Barnett FIne Floors with her husband, Andy who managed the store for around 40 years with Kent.
3. Brenda, 69 lives in Fairfield, TX. She met Roy Peterson in Lubbock and they married the same year as me and Chuck, 1974. They have been married 44 years and have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. She worked as a secretary many years on and off.
4. Boydette, 68 years old, first married Clyde Blackwell and they had a son Jason. They divorced and after about 9 or more years she married Jim Head from Roswell. He has a son named Zack. They have no grandchildren yet and they live in Houston area, Spring, TX. Boydette was a elementary school teacher.
5. Tay, 66, lives in Ruidoso, New Mexico. He was a great baseball player at Goddard and they won state when he was a senior. He married Kathy Burton, Elaine Burtons's sister. They had 3 children and now have 4 grandchildren. They manage Barnett Carpets in Ruidoso. Kathy is also an RN. She is a great businesswoman. Tay has Parkinsons, but is doing very well.
7. Beverly, 65, lives in Trophy Club, TX. She married a man from Kress, TX. His name is Charles Harris. He is an avid hunter and used to hunt with Chuck some, especially pheasant. They had 3 daughters and now have 6 grandchildren. When I turned 70 Beverly and I were honored to go on a cruise to Alaska because my son Benjamin and his wife Kelsey gave us that wonderful present. Beverly and I get together occasionally because she is closest to my location.
8. Hal, 64, lives in Roswell and he is an architect. He married Jan Carpenter, Sue Ann Carpenter's little sister. They have two daughters. Jan helps him run the business. Hal played at UTEP after playing football at NMMI. He was a great football player.
9. Anita, 62, lives in Atlanta, Georgia in a suburb called Peachtree City. She joined the army and was stationed in Alaska when she met her future husband, Keith Larson. They have a son and a daughter. She graduated from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma and taught art. She is a great artist.
10. Ben, 60 years old lives in South Carolina, He graduated from NMMI and was a great football player. He also graduated from Oral Roberts University and while there he met a lady named Laura Steadman, who became a nurse. He got a masters of divinity at Oral Roberts and has been a Methodist pastor for many years. They have 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren. One of their daughters teaches in a college now.
11. Randy, 59 years old lives in Tulsa Oklahoma. He has never married and lives in a halfway house with others. He is a wonderful man and can play the piano by ear. He writes songs also. He had struggled with mental problems so this halfway house seemed the best for him. I miss him and want to go visit him in Oklahoma City soon.
12. Bobby (or Robert) is 56 years old. He went to University of Oklahoma for one year and was on the wrestling team there. Then he returned home and moved to Ruidoso. He was lonely because our dad had died that year and he wanted to be back in New Mexico close to family. He married a lady from Ruidoso named Teresa. They had 4 children and now have 4 grandchildren. They are raising three of their grandchildren now. He is a pastor also, like my brother Ben.
I hope you and others like this brief update on the Barnett Family! GOD BLESS YOU FOR ASKING. NOW WITH ALL THE SPOUSES AND CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILREN AND GREAT GRANDCHILDREN THERE ARE AROUND 120 IN OUR FAMILY. i DO REALIZE i NEED TO WRITE A BOOK ABOUT OUR MOM AND DAD AND THE WHOLE FAMILY!!!
